About
Hi everybody
This blog wants to tell about our visit to Turku, Finland. The Socrates-Arion-visit takes place from 15th till 19th januari 2007. We have the intention to put a lot of entries during the exchange-week. Main subject during this week will be “ICT and teaching”.
Maybe some information will be posted in advance.
This page should not be used to ‘discuss’ since you cannot reply on a post (already a reply). Use the home button to put your opinion about things.
The aim of this visit is to introduce and share good teaching practises at upper secondary school level in the field ofICT. The programme will contain visits to ICT-companies like Nokia and to schools from primary education to uppersecondary level as well as to the local universities. The participants have a chance to get acquainted with themainlines of the Finnish education system and teacher training in practise during the visit to the Univ. of Turkuteacher training centre. We will introduce you also to the Centre of Computer-Assisted Learning that concentrates intraining teachers’ ict skills. Finally we will visit the University of Turku Educational Technology Unit. The Kupittaaupper secondary school emphasizes teaching of the Computer Science and Media studies. Our programme began in2000 and it is supported by Turku Centre for Computer Science (TUCS), a joint research and education centrebetween the University of Turku, Åbo Akademi University and the Turku School of Economics and BusinessAdministration. Our students can start there universities studies after their first year in secondary school. During theirschool years they have a chance to gain the free access to university. We have simultaneously developed a cooperationprogram with a number of ICT-companies like Ericsson, Hansaprint, Fujitsu Services, Nokia and Siemens. In a special three year plan the companies offer to our students possibilities to get acquainted with the ICT-sector.

Hello – Bonjour from France !
I am delighted to have the opportunity of getting into the ARION meeting in Turku long before visit scheduled in January.
I have in mind to get acquainted with all participants though this blog and the personal webpages colleagues may have posted on the www.
I have already booked my flight and look forward to meeting our Finnish hosts and their guests during the informal get-together on Sunday night.
Back soon on this blog.
Hervé THILY (Rouen – France)
Hello!
It has been quite silent here on these pages ever since they luckily were opened so I thought to write down something here. For instance if you have any questions concerning our meeting in Turku you could very well write them here…
The weather in Finland is very different in our four seasons and I love it! It would be very boring if we only would have sunshine or freezing cold all time. At the moment we have about plus ten degrees and autumn rains, in the northern part of our country they already go skiing. Let’s hope that we’ll have snow in Turku when you’ll arrive here.
A hello from me too!
I would just like to add something to what Arto said. I am sure everybody is eagerly waiting for us to send a program for the week in January but as there are still quite a few things to be confirmed we can’t send you any detailed program just now.
But, as most of you will be coming on Sunday, there will be an informal get-together then. Mon, Tue and Thu will include different program (more and less official) from morning till evening; on Wed you will be taken to a full-day cruise, and on Fri there will be program till roughly midday after which,if your flight is not that early, you can spend whatever way you want.
The evening programs are not obligatory to you, but of course we hope you could join the rest of the group.
I hope this will satisfy your curiosity for now, a more detailed version of the program will follow later…
Hello everyone !
I am very busy right now and presumably will be so right through until mid-December; but I will try to keep up with messages on the blog in order to speed up collaboration when we meet in Turku.
If I can be of assistance in any way until then, do mail me; I’d be happy to oblige.
Hello Everyone
I am interested to read the indication of the content of the programme – I am investigating flights and am unsure whether to book flights on Friday afternoon or wait until Saturday. I wondered how many were staying until Saturday?
Anybody decided this yet?
Thanks
Ros
Bonjour tout le monde (Hello everyone)
Back in France … Barely emerging after nearly two weeks of real hard work with my laptop out of order (!) and a backlog of urgent tasks to do. Thanks to Pascal, I’m back on the blog and trying to keep pace with you all.
First, let me say once again “Merci à la Finlande” for such a rewarding visit. Really, you’ve all done a great done with the group while looking after your pupils (not mentioning your family and kids). It was also nice meeting you all.
Will post my report tomorrow (written in French – Ouh-la-la !) Sorry folks! but I guess we have all said how happy we all were to see such a variety of successful implementations of ICT. I have suggested Juho and the Director of Normalikkoulu be invited to France and give us a few tips to get things moving … in the right direction. Fingers crossed…
Must be off !
Back tomorrow.
Herve
Funny thing is that I am invited to Finland (Tampere) early May for a meeting of telepresence and video-users worldwide. Will keep you posted in case I can secure some funding to attend this conference.
