Dear colleagues,
it is a great job to set up this blog. My name is Ondrej Neumajer and I am from Prague, The Czech Republic. Originally I am a teacher of ICT. I had been working as a deputy headteacher at a large elementary school in Prague (900 pupils from 7 to 15) before I starter my job at The Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports (http://www.msmt.cz/default.asp?language=en). I work at the department of National Strategy for ICT in Education now (http://e-gram.cz/English_version.htm). Several articles advocating using ICT in education and support of my books could be found at my home page (http://ondrej.neumajer.cz/). It is said that the Czech languages is one of the most difficult all over the world. Therefore I do not expect you will be able to learn it before we will see each other in Turku – I am sorry, my pages are only in Czech :-)
I am 31 years old, have two daughters (6 months and 2 years) and one wife.
I am looking forward to see you in January.

7. Arto Heiskanen - October 23, 2006

Hello,

My name is Arto Heiskanen and I’m one of the members of the Finnish Arion team in Kupittaa upper secondary school. Actually I’m not involved in IC teaching at all – my subjects are Swedish and German – but like most of the teachers I cope with computers daily. International school projects have always been a part of my school work and an interesting one. I’ve participated in two Arion meetings, one in Den Haag and one in a little village in Norway. No wonder that I like travelling (in Europe) in my spare time too.
Let’s hope that we’ll have a pleasant meeting in Turku, the oldest city of Finland. But ok, if you only have a chance to visit Helsinki before/after Turku it’s worth it. By the way, did you know that we have two official languages in Finland? Finnish and Swedish.

8. Marjo Palmu - October 24, 2006

Dear everybody

I’m Marjo Palmu and also a member of the organizing team here in Turku. I don’t teach ICT myself but, in the same way as Arto,my dear colleague, I use it daily in my work. Nowadays I teach English for 13-19-year-olds and this year mostly in Kupittaa upper secondary school. I am interested in other languages though and have studied Swedish,German, French and lately Italian too -but don’t expect too much from that…

At the moment, we are preparing our school’s 50th anniversary festivities in mid-November so the whole staff will be quite busy up till then. However, I hope you will all use this blog to tell the rest of us something about yourselves, and maybe use it for sharing whatever information you might have.

See you all in Turku!

yours

Marjo Palmu

11. Kemal Karaman - December 7, 2006

Hi,

I am Kemal Karaman from Turkey. I live in Uşak, near the city of İzmir, situated on the Aegean Region of Turkey. It is a relatively small city which has a population of 150 000 and it is 210 km away from the Aegean coast. I work as a teacher trainer at the Faculty of Education at Uşak University. My department is Computer and Instructional Technology Education (CITE). I teach basic computer skills, and how to develop educational materials and instructional design courses. I am also teaching similar courses at postgraduate level at the faculty.

I am almost 40 years old, married and father of two children. My visit to Finland is going to be my first experience outside Turkey and I am kind of excited about it. At the same time, I am little bit of anxious since my spoken English is limited. It will also be an interesting visit for me because it is a Nordic country and away from the Mediterranean sunshine.

I would like to remind all of you that I will be bringing along a Turkish treat for you. Guess what? Yes, it’s Turkish Raki, our traditional drink which has 45% alc. volume and is made of fermented grape and aniseed. My guess is that it would accompany us well during our Viking Line cruise or thereafter.

Best wishes,
Kemal
